Who we are
This website is operated by Wyoming County, Pennsylvania. Our website address is https://wyomingcountypa.gov. Wyoming County is located at 1 Courthouse Square, Tunkhannock, PA 18657, and our main switchboard is (570) 836-3200.
This policy explains what information we collect when you use wyomingcountypa.gov, why we collect it, how we use it, and who has access to it. If you have questions about this policy, you can contact our Open Records Officer (see “How to contact us” below).
What information we collect
Information you give us directly through forms
Our website uses WPForms to provide contact, request, and registration forms for the County’s departments and offices (for example, the Right-to-Know request form, Coroner contact form, Recycling Event registration forms, and similar). When you submit one of these forms, we collect the information you enter — typically your name, email address, phone number, and the message or request itself. We also automatically record the date and time of submission and the IP address the submission came from. We use this information to respond to your request and to route it to the correct department.
Form submissions are stored in our WordPress database and are also delivered as email notifications to the county staff responsible for that department. Email delivery is handled through Brevo (formerly Sendinblue), a transactional email service. Brevo retains a log of message metadata (sender, recipient, subject, delivery status) to confirm delivery; the message body is delivered to the recipient and is not retained long-term by Brevo.
Information collected automatically
When you visit wyomingcountypa.gov, our hosting provider’s web server records standard log information including your IP address, the pages you requested, the date and time of the request, the referring page, and your browser’s user-agent string. We use this information for security monitoring (through the Wordfence plugin), to diagnose problems, and to understand which pages are most useful to residents.
We use Google Site Kit and Google Analytics to understand aggregate site traffic patterns. This service uses cookies to count visitors and may share aggregated, non-personally-identifying information with Google.
We use Google reCAPTCHA on form submissions to protect against automated abuse. reCAPTCHA collects hardware and software information (such as device and application data) and sends it to Google for analysis. The use of reCAPTCHA is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
Embedded content from other websites
Some pages on this site include embedded content (for example, videos, maps, or social media posts). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you had visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content. We don’t control what these third parties collect, but where possible we link to their privacy policies.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files that this site (and the third-party services listed above) may store in your browser. We use cookies for:
- Site operation — for example, remembering that you have closed an announcement banner, or keeping you logged in if you have an authorized administrative account.
- Analytics — Google Analytics uses cookies to count unique visitors and to understand which pages are visited most often.
- Spam protection — Google reCAPTCHA uses cookies to determine whether form submissions are made by real people.
You can disable cookies in your browser’s settings. The site will continue to function, but some features (such as form submission) may not work as smoothly.
How long we keep your information
WPForms submissions are retained indefinitely so that county departments can refer back to past requests when needed. Web server logs are typically retained for a few weeks. Spam-flagged form entries are automatically deleted after 15 days. Analytics data retention follows Google’s default policy.
Records that fall under the Pennsylvania Right-to-Know Law are subject to the County’s records retention schedule, which may require longer retention regardless of this policy.
Public records and the Right-to-Know Law
Information you submit to Wyoming County may be subject to the Pennsylvania Right-to-Know Law (Act 3 of 2008). Some records held by the County are public and may be released in response to a Right-to-Know request. Other records — for example, personal contact information of citizens, criminal investigative materials, and personnel records — are exempt from disclosure under the Law. If you have specific concerns about whether information you submit will be public, please contact the Open Records Officer before submitting.
To make a Right-to-Know request, visit our Public Records page.
Who we share your information with
Wyoming County does not sell your personal information and does not share it with advertisers or marketers. We share information only:
- With the county department or office that your form submission is addressed to;
- With our service providers as necessary to operate this site, including our hosting provider, Brevo (email delivery), Google (reCAPTCHA and Analytics), and Wordfence (security);
- As required by Pennsylvania law, including the Right-to-Know Law, or by lawful court order or subpoena.
Security
This site is served over HTTPS with HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) enabled, which means your connection to wyomingcountypa.gov is encrypted. We use Wordfence and Loginizer to monitor for and block malicious activity. We take reasonable precautions to protect the information we collect, but no online transmission or electronic storage method is completely secure.
Children
This site is intended for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted information through this site, please contact us and we will remove the information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes to the services we use or changes in applicable law. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will be announced on the homepage when reasonable.
